Rebecca Shao

Clinical Psychologist

BSc (Hons), MPsych (Clinical)

Rebecca is an AHPRA registered Clinical Psychologist who completed her postgraduate training at the University of Melbourne. She has experience working with individuals (and their families) presenting with a range of acute and chronic physical and mental health difficulties. Rebecca has practiced across private, and hospital and community-based public health settings. She is passionate about early intervention and prevention, and creating broader-level change for our communities through challenging systemic stigma surrounding mental health.

Rebecca’s therapeutic approach has been described as warm, empathic, formulation-driven, and relational. Her practice is guided by values of kindness, honesty, hope, and humour. Rebecca believes in supporting individuals to find meaning in their experiences, and practices within a trauma-informed, culturally-safe, and strengths-based framework. She draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Rebecca is particularly interested in working with young people (18+) experiencing mental health challenges related to trauma, psychosis, and personality vulnerabilities. She also works with individuals experiencing difficulties with mood, anxiety, stress, adjustment and relationships.

Rebecca’s practice is predominantly delivered in English, though she can also communicate in conversational Mandarin.
