Clinical Psychologist

Althea Han

BSocSc(Psych)(Hons), MPsych(Clinical)

Althea is an AHPRA-registered Clinical Psychologist who completed her postgraduate training at the University of Melbourne. She has worked across tertiary public mental health services in Australia and Singapore, supporting young people and adults experiencing complex mental health challenges.

She works with adults who have experienced trauma, adversity, and difficult life experiences that continue to affect their relationships, emotions, sense of self, and overall wellbeing. Many of the challenges people bring to therapy—including anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others—can often be viewed as adaptive responses to experiences that once felt unsafe, unpredictable, or overwhelming.

Her approach is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in the belief that healing begins with understanding. Guided by the philosophy that it is not simply a matter of what is wrong, but what has happened, Althea works collaboratively with clients to explore how past experiences may have shaped the ways they cope, connect, and make sense of themselves and the world around them. She recognises that the impact of trauma extends beyond thoughts and emotions, shaping the body’s responses, nervous system patterns, and ways of relating. She aims to provide a space where clients feel safe, respected, and supported to explore difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable, while developing greater trust in themselves and their relationships with others.

Drawing on her experience in public mental health, Althea has a particular interest in supporting adults with complex and developmental trauma, cPTSD/PTSD, attachment difficulties, emotion regulation challenges, and psychosis in recovery. She integrates evidence-based approaches including Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), parts work, and attachment-focused interventions. She is currently undertaking training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and she tailors her approach to each person’s needs.
Althea’s practice is mainly carried out in English, though she is also able to communicate in conversational Mandarin.
