Important information for your appointment

Appointment Length The process for an intrauterine device typically involves two separate visits. The first is a standard consultation to discuss your suitability and perform any necessary health checks. The second visit is a longer appointment for the actual procedure. Contraceptive implant insertions or removals can often be completed in a single dedicated appointment.

How to Prepare For intrauterine device procedures we recommend having a light meal before your appointment. Some patients find it helpful to take simple over the counter pain relief an hour before the procedure but your doctor will discuss this with you during your initial consultation.

Fees and Billing Fitzroy North Medical Clinic is a private billing practice. The procedure for inserting or removing these devices incurs an out of pocket fee which covers medical consumables and the use of the treatment room. You will also need to purchase the device from a pharmacy with a prescription provided by your doctor. Eligible patients will receive a Medicare rebate for the consultation portion of the visit.
